Double-Slit Experiment with Electrons
Double-Slit Experiment with Electrons
Later to demonstrate the wave-like behavior of the electron, a beam of electrons was shot through the two-slit openings whose size is in the order of the wavelength of the electron. So, if we allow the electrons to flow through the two-slit openings S1 and S2, an interference pattern is formed on the detector screen. A degree of constructive and destructive interference is formed on the screen, where constructive interference represents the bright fringes and destructive interference represents the dark fringes. On the detector screen, the more intense or brightest fringe is formed at the center of the screen called central maxima with decreasing intensity on either side of the fringe.
Now if we allow a single electron to pass through the two slits, the screen would appear to be very random or there will be no particular pattern formed on the screen. But if we allow the electron to pass through for a longer period of time, an interference pattern would be formed on the screen with a brighter fringe formed at the center of the screen with fewer intensity fringes formed on either side and dark fringes formed in the middle of the bright fringes.

Very good job Sangay Yuden .Nice write up la.Keep it up..👍
ReplyDeleteWell done sangay yuden.. great explanation on double slit experiment... You explained very well about the wave nature of electrons through explaination of wave properties of light..
ReplyDeleteThank you for blog Sangay Yuden. The diagrams used helped me understand more on the interference pattern made by electrons through two slit.
ReplyDeleteWell explained and understandable. It was like a revision for me to go through this topic again.
ReplyDeletemuch appreciated Bangay. all those diagrams and the explanations were much simpler and it made me understand so well.
ReplyDeleteEssential description on brief history about double slit experiment (electron), it's significant and the concept helped me to understand alot. Great appreciation to you.

ReplyDeleteI found this topic little complicated in class but now I am confident enough to say I got at least
ReplyDeletebasic about the topic.
Appreciative work! Wonderful description done on double slit experiment on electron with pictures which helps us understand and remember for long term.
ReplyDeleteGreat work!! Through your blog I'm able to grab more information about double slit experiment with electrons and how bright and dark fringes are formed
ReplyDeleteThank you for making clear explanation about how double slit works and how the fringes are formed
